Yahoo transfers organic searches to Bing

Published August 25, 2010

As a part of an agreement made last year, Yahoo has transferred all of its organic searches to Bing. For businesses that rely on search engine optimization as a digital marketing strategy, the transition means they only need to focus on Bing and Google now.

The Yahoo-to-Bing transfer was announced earlier this week on both companies' search blogs. The change currently affects web, image and video searches conducted by internet users in the United States and Canada "with more markets to come," according to Shashi Seth, senior vice president of Yahoo Search Products.

This week's transition impacts only organic search. While paid search is set to be powered by Bing before the end of the year, the transfer may be delayed to ensure that Yahoo's advertising partners aren't negatively affected during the high-volume holiday shopping season.

With Yahoo rerouting its searches through Bing, Microsoft now has a commanding presence in the search market industry. According to a recent comScore report, the two search engines combined serve 32.7 percent of total core searches, which is more than 5 billion queries monthly.ADNFCR-3041-ID-19930918-ADNFCR
