Pizza Hut checks in with new foursquare promotion

Published August 10, 2010

Pizza Hut recently announced a promotion using the geo-social platform, foursquare. The first player to check in and become Mayor at an in-store location will win a free order of breadsticks.

With this promotion, Pizza Hut has become one of the first national pizza chains to incorporate the location-based service into their marketing campaigns. The initiative will run until the end of the year, with up to one player per location eligible to win each day.

"Through past experience, we've learned that our customers are spending a considerable amount of time using social media and mobile tools, increasingly incorporating them into their daily lives," said Brian Niccol, chief marketing officer at Pizza Hut.

As the company notes, Pizza Hut has a history of adopting social media into their digital marketing campaigns. Over the past two years, for example, the chain has launched applications that allow fans to order food from Facebook or through their iPhones.

Meanwhile, foursquare is also on the rise. The geo-social platform recently received $20 million in investment funds to improve and expand its operations. Additionally, foursquare crossed the 2 million member mark in July.ADNFCR-3041-ID-19923074-ADNFCR
