Online video marketing increases steadily, eMarketer reports

Published April 30, 2010

If the current rate of growth in online video consumption holds, a new report from eMarketer says that fully 77 percent of internet users will also be online video viewers by the year 2014.

The marketing news and information service says that "the roots of a content-delivery platform rivaling that of TV are beginning to take hold and will continue to grow over the next five years as consumers become comfortable with watching all forms of video content - long and short, professional and amateur - on their internet-connected phones, laptops, desktops, tablets and TVs."

The last sentence there is an important one - the proliferation of internet video-capable devices could be one of the driving factors in the rising adoption rate of the medium. As consumers grow more and more tech-savvy, digital marketing professionals will adjust the focus of their internet marketing campaigns to target them.

More internet video-capable devices could be in the works, as it was announced Wednesday that computer maker Hewlett-Packard would acquire smartphone manufacturer Palm for $1.2 billion.ADNFCR-3041-ID-19751532-ADNFCR
