MySpace implements Facebook sync feature

Published August 31, 2010

On Monday, the once-reigning social network MySpace introduced a new sync feature that will allow users to share their content through rival social media platform Facebook, giving the platform more value in digital marketing campaigns.

MySpace users will be able to use the "Sync with Facebook" function to broadcast status updates and share their latest photos, songs and game applications. Sync with Facebook is a one-way feature, though, and Facebook users will not be able to similarly share content on MySpace.

Jen Ruffner, director of product management at MySpace, asserts the update was inspired by their core audience (musicians) to enable them to better promote their content. "This new sync functionality is part of an ongoing effort to make it simple for people to share their updates beyond MySpace and allow fans and friends to interact with that content across the web," she said.

While Ruffner claims the move was done to facilitate more comprehensive content sharing, it's possible that the feature was implemented to boost the social network's falling value among advertisers. News Corp., parent company of MySpace, recently merged the social network with its FAN platform to broaden MySpace's consumer reach.ADNFCR-3041-ID-19933721-ADNFCR
