New motion capturing video game controllers compete over video marketing channel

Published March 13, 2010

With the pending release of a new motion capture video game controller from Sony, the nature of the product has dictated that video become one of the primary digital marketing venues for the upcoming battle for motion control market share.

Currently, Nintendo is largely unchallenged in the motion control market, which, gaming news site VGChartz reports, has already seen 70 million units sold. While Nintendo's Wii will continue to dominate for some time, Sony's Move is expected to provide its first serious competition, and Microsoft is said to be readying its own Project Natal for release before the end of 2010. (The Microsoft product, reportedly, will require no controller at all and will simply interpret user gestures.)

VGChartz reports that the video trailers for the various devices are a "critical part" of the marketing for this type of new device.

The digital marketing consensus seems to be that there is no better way to demonstrate the appeal and functionality of a motion capture controller than to show it in motion, which makes the stakes for the production of these video trailers high indeed.ADNFCR-3041-ID-19665188-ADNFCR
