RI recommended the development of personalized enrollment books and a corresponding collateral-management program.
 
RI developed customized enrollment books varying in length from 40 to 90 pages, tailored to an individual participant’s financial needs. The book contains asset-allocation information specifically targeted to the participant’s age, income level, and marital/family status. Each book is further customized with recommended monetary contributions based on the financial goals and time horizons of the participant.

In addition, RI recommended the inclusion of imagery to be selected based on the participant’s date of birth to give greater impact. Each book is fully customized with copy and retirement planning calculations, reflecting the unique retirement needs of each recipient.

A participant’s book presents customized investment scenarios in full-color to project his/her retirement income, based on 401(k) earnings and estimated Social Security payments.

The program also facilitates high-value communications during
the entire course of the 401(k) investment period. For example, in order to increase participation in the program, an employee who has contributed only 2% of income for the year may be informed via customized messaging about the potential loss of company matching funds due to the employee’s low investment level.

 
Full payback for the program was achieved in the first year.

In addition, ongoing annual savings of 40% were generated over offset-printed guides, through the elimination of inventory, collation,
and spoilage costs.

Prudential has stated that deals have been closed with several organizations, at least in part based on these personalized
communication materials.

Prudential also has developed a sales kit built around the value of these personalized communications materials. This kit has become an established piece in the Prudential Retirement program.
